A0706006_A tense office confrontation where a boss demands a signature from employee: Part 2

(Scene: Inside the boardroom, seconds after the pregnant employee, Sarah, hands over the envelope. The Boss, Mr. Sterling, snatches it, his face twisted in a smug triumph.)

Mr. Sterling: (Laughing coldly) Finally. You see, Sarah? It wasn’t that hard, was it? You really should have done this an hour ago and saved us both the theatrics.

Sarah: (Her voice trembling, clutching her stomach) You have what you wanted. Now, just let me go. I’m not feeling well.

Mr. Sterling: (He opens the envelope, ignoring her distress, and begins scanning the document with an obsessive, predatory focus.) Oh, I’m sure you’re not. But you see, Sarah, this isn’t just about a signature. This is about leverage.

Sarah: Leverage? It’s a resignation letter! I’m leaving! I told you I couldn’t handle the stress anymore—the hours, the unreasonable demands… it’s affecting my health, and my baby’s health. Isn’t that enough?

Mr. Sterling: (He stops reading and looks up, his eyes cold and devoid of empathy.) Resignation? Oh, darling, no. That’s not what this is.

(He tosses the paper onto the table. It’s not a resignation letter. It’s a liability waiver and a non-disclosure agreement.)

Sarah: (Gasps, looking at the document) What is this? This isn’t what I signed. You… you manipulated me. I was so upset, I didn’t even read the final page properly.

Mr. Sterling: (Walking slowly around the table, encroaching on her space) Let’s call it “due diligence.” You see, Sarah, you know too much about the actual inner workings of this company—the shortcuts, the missing funds, the shady offshore accounts. If you were to walk out of here and talk to the wrong people? Well, my life would be ruined. And I can’t have that.

Sarah: (Her eyes widen in realization, her voice dropping to a whisper) You’re a monster. You knew I was vulnerable. You knew I wanted to leave to protect my family, and you used that to trap me.

Mr. Sterling: (Chuckles) “Monster” is such a harsh word. Let’s go with “prepared.” You see, the document you just signed effectively muzzles you for the next ten years. And if you dare to speak a word about what you’ve seen here? Well, the penalties listed in the fine print would essentially strip you and your child of everything.

Sarah: (Stands up, her hand shaking as she points to the door) I don’t care. Keep your money. Keep your power. You can’t legally enforce a contract signed under duress.

Mr. Sterling: (His smile vanishes, replaced by a dark, dangerous glare.) Under duress? That’s for a court of law to decide, Sarah. And do you know who owns the law firms around here? I do.

(The room goes silent, save for the hum of the air conditioner. Sarah takes a shaky breath. She looks at him, then down at her stomach, her expression shifting from fear to a steely, quiet resolve.)

Sarah: You’re right. It is a court of law. But you forgot one thing, Mr. Sterling.

Mr. Sterling: (Raising an eyebrow) Oh? And what is that?

Sarah: (She taps her handbag, where her phone is tucked away.) I’ve been recording. Everything. From the moment you cornered me in the hallway, to the threats you just made about the “fine print.” It’s all going straight to my lawyer, and to the authorities.

Mr. Sterling: (His face pales slightly, then he recovers, his voice dropping to a low, menacing whisper.) You wouldn’t. You wouldn’t dare. You have nothing to lose, but you have everything to lose once I’m done with you.

Sarah: (She turns towards the door, walking with a newfound strength.) Try me.

(As Sarah reaches for the door handle, Mr. Sterling lunges forward, his hand slamming against the wood, blocking her exit.)

Mr. Sterling: You aren’t going anywhere until we finish this conversation.

Sarah: (She looks him directly in the eye, unflinching.) The conversation is over, Mr. Sterling. And so are you.

(Suddenly, the door swings open from the outside, revealing the company’s HR Manager and two security personnel, all looking grim.)

HR Manager: Step away from her, Mr. Sterling. Now.

(Mr. Sterling freezes, his hand still on the door. He looks from the security guards to Sarah, realizing he has been outplayed.)

Sarah: (Turning back to the room, her voice steady) I think you have some explaining to do.
